With over 50 university partners across 26 countries, the UBRI has become a standard-bearer for blockchain education, research, and inclusive economic growth. The initiative has contributed to the development of over 600 new or expanded fintech courses and 1,500 academic blockchain research projects, shaping the future of blockchain education.
In a recent development, UBRI has renewed its $1.05 million partnership with Morgan State University, further highlighting its commitment to supporting blockchain innovators across America’s HBCUs. This partnership will pave the way for new programming and research opportunities for students and faculty.
Highlights of the Partnership
Eric van Miltenburg, SVP Strategic Initiatives at Ripple, emphasized the importance of the partnership, noting that HBCUs in the UBRI network are driving interest in crypto and blockchain knowledge. He expressed excitement about how Morgan State will empower its students to launch ambitious projects that will diversify the XRP Ledger ecosystem for years to come.
Since its inception in 2018, the collaboration between Morgan State and UBRI has enhanced technological capabilities, set new academic standards, and fostered a culture of innovation. The partnership has led to initiatives like the student-led MorganHacks, a successful event that attracted students from seven HBCUs this year and featured an XRP Ledger workshop and Finance Challenge Statement from Ripple.
Future Opportunities
With the latest investment, Morgan State aims to expand its efforts, engage other HBCUs, and provide collaborative research and real-world learning opportunities. The goal is to cultivate a pipeline of diverse, skilled professionals equipped to excel in enterprise blockchain jobs. Planned activities include research projects intersecting blockchain, AI, and ML, XRPL development workshops, and an annual national blockchain and fintech conference.
