Polygon (MATIC) Launches Ahmedabad Upgrade on PoS Mainnet
Polygon (MATIC) has recently unveiled the Ahmedabad upgrade for its Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mainnet, offering enhanced features for developers and users, including code size expansion and improved network observability.
Polygon (MATIC) has officially rolled out the Ahmedabad upgrade on its PoS mainnet, aimed at enhancing the experiences of both developers and users. The upgrade, which underwent a two-week testing phase on the Amoy testnet, went live at block #62278656. This significant update introduces several notable features:
- Token Symbol Change: The token symbol on Polygon PoS has been updated from MATIC to POL, and WMATIC to WPOL.
- Increased Code Size: Developers now have the ability to build more complex contract deployments with the code size expansion, from 24KB to 32KB.
- Improved Bridge Transactions: The upgrade facilitates the replay of failed state syncs, saving stuck bridge transactions and enhancing network observability.
Polygon Improvement Proposals (PIPs) Included in the Ahmedabad Upgrade:
PIP-30: Increased Code Size
PIP-30 raises the maximum code size limit to 32KB, empowering dApp developers to deploy more intricate contracts seamlessly.
PIP-36: Addressing Gas Pricing and Bridge Issues
PIP-36 resolves a gas pricing issue post Ethereum’s Berlin hardfork, unlocking certain POL transactions stuck in the plasma bridge and enhancing network observability.
PIP-45: Token Symbol Change
PIP-45 reflects the transition from MATIC to POL, altering the token symbol on PoS to better align with the platform’s evolution.
All node operators have upgraded to the latest versions of Bor (>= v1.4.0) and Erigon (>= 2.60.8), ensuring a smooth transition to the updated system.

Developers and users are not required to take any specific action post-upgrade, as the changes are implemented to enhance the ecosystem seamlessly.
